2016 Calendar | Celebrating all year at Love Kate’s
Every January at Love Kate’s we launch our New Year Sale and take a look at the calendar so that, when the time comes, you know where to find that special card and gift.
1st January | What New Year doesn’t start with a bang? Let’s face it the New Year’s celebration is still the UK’s top excuse for a party and this year’s going to be no exception.
25th January | Burn’s night is on a Monday this year, but that’s not going to stop the celebrations. Robert Burns, the much loved Scottish poet and his birthday is celebrated every year in Scotland today.
8th February | Today is Chinese New Year and 2016 is the year of the Monkey so our bet is that it’s going to be a funny one.
9th February | Shrove Tuesday, is celebrated just before the Lent, and a time when Christians remember the time when Jesus fasted for forty days and nights. Most people know Shrove Tuesday as Pancake Day, which in modern times, is the time of year when we binge on pancakes before we give something up else up for Lent.
14th February | Valentine’s Day is a time when a secret admirer can let you know you’re loved - usually by giving a Valentine’s Card. While the tradition may be that your Valentine doesn’t discover who it is that wants be friends, Valentine’s Day is one of the best chances you’ll get all year to tell the one you love you care.
17th February | It’s Random Acts of Kindness Day and day when, just one someone least expects it, you do something kind. It needn’t be the giving a gift that you know someone always wanted, but, Love Kate’s is a Cards and Gift shop so why not... https://www.randomactsofkindness.org/
19th February | Kate’s Birthday
29th February | 2016 is a Leap Year and traditionally the one year in four that ladies can propose marriage to gentlemen. Kate’s stocked up with some cracking engagement cards just in case He says yes...
1st March | It’s St David’s Day today and a big day for Wales that marks the death of St David the Patron Saint of Wales.
6th March | Mother’s Day is a chance to say thank you to Mum and to make sure that today is the one day in the year where she can officially put her feet up, look forward to some special visitors and enjoy a few treats. Grandmothers and Step Mums are also celebrated on Mothering Sunday. Many children take their Mum out to lunch, but for those who can’t make it on the day usually send their Mother flowers, a card or gift. At Kate’s Mother’s Day is our busiest time of year after Christmas.
8th March | Celebrated since the 1900s International Women's Day remains at the forefront of women’s rights campaigning for greater awareness of equality for women. Kate wants to see more women in positions of power and is keen to support international Women’s Day and she hopes you are too. You can find more about what International Women’s Day has achieved at www.internationalwomensday.com.
17th March | It’s Saint Patrick's Day today. St Patrick is the Patron Saint of Ireland and it’s always a good crack.
25rd, 27th 28th March | Easter. The Easter feast starts on a sober note with Good Friday with a day off work to church and think about the crucifixion. It soon lightens up though as Jesus comes back to life on Easter Sunday and the party starts. When Easter is celebrated each year depends on the first full moon after the start of spring, or the Vernal Equinox. On Easter Sunday we traditionally give chocolate eggs, but more recently this has grown into giving Easter cards and gifts.
1st April | April Fool’s Day. Fun for everyone, April Fool’s Day is the UK’s favourite day for silly pranks. No one really knows why April the first is a fool’s day, but it’s probably something to do with ancient calendars celebrating New Year on the 1st April? Maybe it’s something to do with the phrase and time when people were sent on a “Fool’s Errand”? If you find out exactly why April 1st is a Fool’s day Kate would love to know...

Those lovely Birthday, Anniversary and Christmas cards won’t write themselves.

Why not give him a trip out in the car, take him to work, school, or let him meet your friends at Uni.
Interesting Fact | The Teddy Bear got its name after Toy Shop owner Morris Michom created a new Toy and wanted to name it after President Teddy Roosevelt.
26th September | Thinking of You Week. A special event run by the Greeting Card Association to “highlight the power of the card”. Inevitably this puts a lot of pressure on Grandma and Grandad and today is the day can say thanks.
5th October | Do Something Nice Day. In today’s busy world sometimes it’s hard to get off the merry-go-round and think about helping other people. Doing something nice doesn’t have to cost a lot of money, it could be giving someone a flower, a card to say thanks, or simply making someone a nice cup of tea.
“Real generosity is doing something nice for someone who will never find out” Frank A. Clark

Most people give children sweets and the Witches, Vampires and Zombies disappear, but a few brave souls ask for the trick and are scared half to death...
5th November | Guy Fawkes Night is better known as Bonfire Night and marks the day that Guy Fawkes planned to burn down the Houses of Parliament. Today Guy Fawkes is represented by a scarecrow perched on top of a burning bonfire and families have fun watching fireworks being set-off in fields and gardens everywhere.
13th November | Remembrance Sunday. The day we honour those who gave their lives in all wars and conflicts.
13th November | National Kindness Day. Whether it’s giving a little money to your favourite charity, or doing something for someone in need when they least expect it, National Kindness day gives us all a chance to think about those in need. Everyone needs a little kindness from time to time don’t they?
25th November | Black Friday. Let the Madness begin. From midnight tonight is the day that retailers across the globe slash their prices to grab customers the second their Christmas salary pings into their bank account. There are some real bargains out there, but at Kate’s we’ve decided to opt-out of the Black Friday and Cyber Monday Chaos and offer really nice prices all year around.
28th November | Cyber Monday is the busiest e-shopping day of the year. Originating in the U.S., Cyber Monday is focused on online retailers rather than the high street. It’s all a similar shopping frenzy to Black Friday except there is more emphasis on smaller digital products, electrical and games.
30th November | Saint Andrew's Day - Patron Saint of Scotland

31st December | Hogmanay. We’ve looked Hogmanay up in the dictionary and, surprisingly the words got nothing to do with pigs, but, roughly translated from the Scottish, it means having a rumbustuous New Year ’s Eve. Have fun
We hope you’ve enjoyed our 2016 celebration dates and every year they’ll be updated for you so they’ll always be something new, and, by the way, don’t forget your New Year’s Discount Code...
