So who's behind Fred?
Cartoonist Rupert Fawcett, born and raised in West London was by his own account, "bad at everything at school except art". Rupert became a professional cartoonist almost by accident when in 1989 whilst doodling he drew a little bald man in braces and carpet slippers and named him Fred.

Funny Card of the Day | Custody Cat
Fred often got it wrong when it came to choosing Penelope's birthday present, but this time he was one step ahead.
Penelope wasn't best pleased: 'That's the last time you ruin my birthday. I said I wanted new shoes, not a pair of Mules...'
The cat knew what was coming next. The cat was clever and had seen the letter from Herbert, Fred's solicitor mate from the Golf Club.
'In my opinion Fred, because the said cat was your wife's family pet when you married, you will need to be very careful when negotiating custody of Mama Pasquali" should you ask Penelope for a Divorce. In these circumstances a single Mule will probably be considered insufficient leverage by the Court.'

Fred often complained to his Golf Club mates that Penelope had a migraine at bedtime. Fred's best friend Herbert said:
"Play her some music as she's going to sleep and soothe Penelope's pain away..."
Sod that, Fred said. "I'll play the BAG pipes..."

Until now Fred was happy thinking the "football" was the best ball...
Fred's best mate Horris spoilt if for him when he said: "It's just easier with a rugby ball. Pretend to tie your shoe laces and I'll show you..."
