Why do we send Easter cards?

With blue skies, blossoming buds and lighter evenings, it’s no surprise that many love the arrival of Spring. Along with this beautiful season comes Easter traditions of chocolate eggs, hot cross buns and of course, our favourite, the act of sending Easter cards.

This tradition is used as a way for people to celebrate hope and new beginnings. For Christians, this stems back to the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday. During some of the most difficult times in history, such as the First World War, an influx of Easter card sending occurred as a way of bringing hope during a period of uncertainty.

We witnessed a similar increase in card sending here at Love Kate’s during the coronavirus pandemic. Particularly during the first lockdown when everyone was told to stay at home from 26th March 2021. It was unlike anything we had ever seen before, and nobody knew what the future would hold. At a time when we had never felt more apart, Easter cards gave us an opportunity to stay connected.

They meant we didn’t have to miss moments with grandchildren…

With the lockdowns far behind us now and able to celebrate Easter with loved ones. Whilst we continue to send cards to wish friends and family an Easter full of love and joy, we should still use Easter cards to continue the spread of hope to those who need it most.

By sending our charity Easter cards, you can do both. You can help the British Heart Foundation and the Alzheimer’s Society research cures and treatment, fund Samaritan's volunteers so they can answer calls from people in crisis or help Oxfam to supply essentials to those struggling in Ukraine.

Simply find a pack of Easter charity cards, send them to your friends, and continue to spread hope this Easter.
